Kodansha e o estúdio Production I.G (Ghost in The Shell, Psycho-Pass) anunciaram que um novo anime baseado no manga Ghost in The Shell de Masamune Shirow está em produção. Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) e Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) estão co-dirigindo o anime. O formato e a data de lançamento ainda não foram anunciados.
O estúdio Production IG produziu anteriormente os filmes Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence films, ambos dirigidos por Mamoru Oshii em 1995 e 2004, respectivamente, assim como o anime Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex e sua continuação para a TV, OVAs e filme. Em 2013, o Production IG adaptou o material no OVA prequel Ghost in the Shell Arise, que posteriormente virou uma serie de televisão. Mais recentemente, o estúdio estreou Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie em 2015 e o vídeo de smartphone Ghost in the Shell VR Diver.
O Filme live-action da Dreamworks e Paramount estrelado por Scarlett Johansson abriu nos Estados Unidos em 31 de março. O filme será aberto no Japão na sexta-feira.
